PORT ANGELES — City Council members are expected to seek a $2 million state loan to replace more old downtown water mains and sidewalks.
The money would pay for the third and final phase of the downtown water main and sidewalk replacement project — the first phase was completed in 1999 and the second in 2001.
The last remaining section of Port Angeles’ historic “underground city” along Laurel Street will be bypassed as part of the project.
The state loan application is due May 13 — the council is expected to approve the loan application at its meeting Tuesday.
City Public Works Director Glenn Cutler said a decision from the state on the loan could come in early fall.
