PORT ANGELES — City Public Works and Utilities Director Glenn Cutler addressed citizens’ concerns about the proposed eastside annexation during a relatively calm meeting Thursday night.
The public forum, meant to answer questions about local improvement districts, was “not a time for debate,” Cutler told those in attendance before beginning an hour-long presentation.
About 100 people attended the meeting about improvement districts, which provide a means for generating revenue to pay for water and sewer systems, parks and other city amenities.
The city of Port Angeles has proposed annexing residential and commercial areas north and south of U.S. Highway 101 between DelGuzzi Drive and Morse Creek.
Some residents in the annexation area fear becoming part of the city would turn rural neighborhoods into urban ones.
