PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Planning Manager Allyson Brekke has been promoted to Community and Economic Development director, city officials announced.
Brekke, who joined the city in 2016, replaces Nathan West, who became Port Angeles city manager Sept. 6.
Brekke had served as acting Community and Economic Development director since West’s promotion.
As the leader of the Community and Economic Development department, Brekke will oversee economic development, planning, land use, zoning, permitting, building permits and cultural resources.
During her tenure with the city, Brekke developed “successful relationships with multiple government agency stakeholders and organizations involved with the community and economic development of Port Angeles,” West said in a Friday news release.
“This year she was selected to participate in the inaugural Northwest Women’s Leadership Academy sponsored by the Washington City-County Management Association.
“Her leadership skills and abilities as a contributing strategic member of the leadership team for the city of Port Angeles make Allyson a great choice for the position of Community and Economic Development Director,” West added.
Prior to joining the city of Port Angeles, Brekke served in multiple roles for the city of Bozeman, Mont.
She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, has a bachelor’s degree in historic preservation from the University of Mary Washington and a master’s degree in city planning from the University of Pennsylvania.
