PORT ANGELES — Live music will be the catalyst Saturday night, bringing local residents together behind the families affected by the Oso landslide.
Chantilly Lace, the long-running rock ‘n’ roll quintet, will reunite at the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 U.S. Highway 101, for a benefit that will include a dance concert, a silent auction and a raffle, all to benefit the Oso Fire Department.
Admission is by donation to the event, which will start with the auction from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and continue with Chantilly Lace from 8 p.m. until midnight.
Rachael Rock, a cousin of Junction Roadhouse manager Marie McKean, will give a talk and show photographs of Oso, the Snohomish County town inundated by the slide the morning of March 22.
So far, officials have confirmed 30 victims of the landslide, including members of Quilcene-area resident Tamara Lenzen’s family.
As of Thursday, 15 people remained missing, including Bothell electrician Ron deQuilletes, 52, the son-in-law of Omer Vigoren, pastor at Port Angeles’ Bethany Pentecostal Church.
In the disaster’s wake, members of Port Angeles’ musical community are coming together in solidarity with the people of Oso.
Reunion for fundraiser
Bandmates Chuck Darland, Dave Shaumburg Sr., Davy Shaumburg Jr., Chris Stevens and Dave Bailey retired Chantilly Lace last summer but decided to bring back the group for this fundraiser.
With Peninsula Daily News music columnist John Nelson as host, they will unleash their classic rock repertoire while welcoming guest musicians throughout Saturday evening.
From 7 p.m. until around midnight, Willie Nelson of All Points Charters & Tours will provide free transportation to and from the Junction. He can be reached at 360-775-9128.
Those who cannot make it Saturday can still contribute, John Nelson noted. Donors may drop off checks payable to the Oso Fire Department at the Junction Roadhouse.
For directions to the venue, phone 360-452-9880.
