PORT ANGELES — Gov. Gary Locke is expected to sign today or Friday the waterfront land swap necessary for the proposed Oak Street hotel and conference center.
In another development, city officials met last week with project critic Tod McClaskey, owner of the Best Western Olympic Lodge hotel, to try heading off a potential legal challenge to the project.
Mayor Glenn Wiggins said there was an understanding reached at the meeting that if an independent analysis proved that Ehm’s project wouldn’t harm McClaskey’s business, then McClaskey wouldn’t pursue any legal action.
McClaskey fears that the new hotel and conference center would take business away from his hotel — and he is upset that part of the cost of the project — $2 million — is being underwritten by city lodging taxes collected from guests at his hotel and at other Port Angeles hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts.
