PORT ANGELES — School district secretarial, para-educator and custodial workers will be laid off to help the district cover a $1.7 million budget deficit in the 2002-03 school year.
Superintendent Gary Cohn confirmed that district officials had notified employees who are targeted for layoff at the end of the current school year.
But district officials are hoping that additional unannounced resignations and retirements will occur between now and summer to avert staff layoffs.
“We are still working with union representatives and expect more resignations and retirements to be announced,” Cohn said.
