PORT ANGELES — The Daishowa America mill will shut down for the first two weeks of July, due to large inventories and a soft market.
Mill workers learned of the shutdown Wednesday afternoon when officials posted the shutdown notice at the plant.
During the shutdown, the mill will maintain a work force large enough to complete minor maintenance and capital work.
“First and second half 2002 orders from customers are behind plan due to the slow economy and the drop in telephone directory advertising,” Mill Manager Harold Norlund said in a written statement Wednesday.
“The Port Angeles facility, in response to rising inventory levels, will curtail production from July 1 to July 14 inclusive.”
