PORT ANGELES — Daishowa America plans to begin paring its 262-person work force down to 250 within a couple of years.
And the job cuts could start around July 1, the paper mill’s manager told the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce on Monday.
But the company has no plans to close the mill or make deep personnel cuts, Harold Norlund told chamber members at their weekly luncheon on Monday.
“We must meet the challenge of the economy,” Norlund said.
The future job reductions depend upon capital investments in automation technology that have yet to be approved, Norlund said after his speech.
The company, which makes telephone book paper and is Clallam County’s largest private employer, spends between $6 million to $8 million a year on capital investments.
