PORT ANGELES — Stroll through downtown any day and you’re likely to see it — people on skateboards, inline skates and bicycles cruising the sidewalks.
From youngsters’ point of view, it’s the place they go to hang out with friends and enjoy what they call x-treme sports.
From the downtown merchants’ perspectives, it’s a dangerous activity that has resulted in close calls more than a few times.
And from the city’s standpoint, it’s illegal.
“We receive more complaints about skateboarders and bicyclists on the downtown sidewalks than probably anything in the city, other than animal complaints,” Port Angeles Deputy Police Chief Terry Gallagher said.
