PORT ANGELES — Thousands of yellow rubber ducks sporting black sunglasses will be released in the Daishowa America mill canal Sunday during the 13th annual Great Olympic Peninsula Duck Derby.
The ducks have been “adopted” by citizens on the North Olympic Peninsula as part of an annual fund-raising event benefiting the Olympic Memorial Hospital Foundation, Sequim Rotary Club’s community projects and the Forks-based Soroptomists International of the Olympic Rainforest.
Event organizers said those who have not purchased a duck yet need not worry — ducks will be sold until 5 p.m. race day at “Duck Quackers Central,” next to the canal on Ediz Hook.
