PORT ANGELES — When the power goes out on the busiest shopping day of the year it is bound to cause a few problems.
At Wal-Mart, 3500 E. U.S. Highway 101, only three hours after the store opened Friday, electricity was off for about an hour between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.
High winds Friday morning knocked down several power poles, cutting off power east of Port Angeles.
Following store procedures, the 300 Wal-Mart employees working evacuated hundreds of people from the store.
All of the cash registers are operated by electricity so when the power goes out, shopping comes to a stop.
“It was quite an experience, but we got through it without any problems,” said JoAnn Cozzolino, assistant manager. “The customers were fantastic.”
