PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Education Foundation members and guests recently met during the 26th annual Celebrate Education Dinner fundraiser at the Red Lion Hotel.
The event raised approximately $33,000 through its table sponsorships, ticket sales and donations, according to a news release.
The “Pass the Hat for Kids” fundraiser raised $14,545, which is included in the total, for the foundation’s Teacher Grant Program.
The Distinguished Service Person of the Year award was presented to Anne Todnem during the evening.
“Anne made connections with the schools in town, working on and off as needed throughout most of the district’s schools, helping in kindergarten and reading classrooms, music classes, providing accompaniment for student musicians,” said Chris Riffle, the foundation’s president.
“It’s hard to believe, but Anne spent 17 years as a volunteer in the high school office, working five days a week for most of those years,” Riffle continued.
Entertainment was provided by Port Angeles High School Vocal Unlimited under the direction of Jolene Dalton Gailey.
Guest speakers included state Rep. Mike Chapman and Roosevelt Elementary students studying governance and law.
