PORT ANGELES — Keeping one lane always open to traffic is the goal of engineers planning the Eighth Street bridge replacement project.
“That’s our goal, based upon what I’m hearing from emergency service providers about their costs, which will be part of our analysis,” said Project Manager Bernie Chaplin from Exeltech Consulting Inc. of Olympia.
The city is planning to replace the two Eighth Street bridges above Valley and Tumwater creeks beginning in 2005.
The estimated project cost of up to $20 million is being paid almost entirely by state grants.
The city public works department hosted two meetings for government officials and special interest groups Friday at City Hall to discuss issues and concerns regarding the project.
