PORT ANGELES — The pier at the former Rayonier Inc. mill site impressed an entourage of retired naval officers — so much that they thought it could rank above three Puget Sound-area sites being considered for the mothballed USS Ranger aircraft carrier.
“We think that this is certainly at the top of the list now. . . . Let’s hope we walk down the aisle together,” retired Rear Adm. H.P. “Hank” Glindeman, said after Rayonier Inc. environmental engineering manager Jack Anderson and resort developer Jerry Ward led a tour of the 75-acre site Thursday morning.
The tour was organized in part by Ward, who proposes a 322-unit timeshare condominium resort, water park and aquarium — with the Ranger moored at the pier.
