PORT ANGELES — Firefighters on Sunday were battling a large, smoky “hog fuel”‘ fire at Hermann Brothers Logging and Construction west of Port Angeles.
Kary Hermann, daughter of Hermann Brothers owner Bill Hermann, said Sunday afternoon that the fire reported at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday was in a logging yard and was being fought by Clallam County Fire District No. 2 and city of Port Angeles firefighters.
The blaze was south of U.S. Highway 101 on Eclipse Industrial Parkway.
The cause of the fire is believed to have been spontaneous combustion, said Hermann. Hog fuel is the waste product of wood, which is often used to power paper mill boilers. It includes sticks and bark.
