PORT ANGELES — Parents of Franklin Elementary School students expressed concern Tuesday night over a proposed temporary closure of the building, saying they don’t want to disrupt their children’s learning atmosphere.
“This school feels like home,” said parent Pam Fleming, who expressed concern about the staff team environment being divided in a closure.
“That’s going to be really hard to bring back together.”
Closing Franklin for extensive renovation is part of a recommendation the Port Angeles School District’s Facilities Efficiency Task Force presented to the School Board last week in a strategy to save the district $300,000 by changing the way district-owned buildings are operated.
Under the proposal, Franklin would close for 18 to 20 months for renovation, and the students would be divided between Jefferson and Monroe elementary schools.
