PORT ANGELES — A 356-foot freighter was escorted to Port Angeles Harbor early Saturday morning, hours after suffering engine failure west of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
The Antigua- and Barbuda-flagged MV BBC Peru suffered engine failure just before 11 a.m. Friday, nearly 14 miles seaward from Buoy J at the mouth of the Strait, Coast Guard Marine Safety Office Puget Sound reported.
The U.S. Coast Guard and the state Department of Ecology ordered the vessel to obtain tugboat assistance and be escorted to Port Angeles to make repairs.
The Neah Bay-based rescue tugboat Barbara Foss responded around 11:30 a.m., said Sandy Howard, Ecology spokeswoman.
