PORT ANGELES — Now that the City Council has approved the location of a proposed monument honoring the county’s public safety employees, fund-raising efforts are taking shape.
According to real estate broker Alan Barnard, one of the monument organizing committee members, the first fund-raiser is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Port Angeles High School auditorium, 304 E. Park Ave.
“It is real significant that it’s all private money,” Barnard said.
Tickets cost $5 and are available at ASM Signs, KONP radio, RE/MAX Performance Team, First Federal Savings and Loan and Port Book And News.
The money is being raised through Nor’wester Rotary so donations will be tax deductible.
Checks can be made payable to “Public Safety Tribute.”
Monument construction in the new Francis Street Park won’t begin until the money is raised, he said.
