Port Angeles: Graving yard receives city building permit

The state Department of Transportation’s proposed graving yard has received a Port Angeles city building permit, clearing another of its many hurdles.

The permit for the graving yard, in which pontoons and anchors for the new Hood Canal Bridge east end, was issued late last week.

The estimated $100 million project was put out to bid a week ago. The bid opening is expected in about seven weeks.

The graving yard is proposed on 24 waterfront acres east of the Daishowa America paper mill and north of Marine Drive on land formerly used by the mill.
