Port Angeles High School seniors honored as students of the year

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles High School’s Career and Technical Education program has recognized two seniors as its students of the year.

Aeverie Politika has been named Marketing Student of the Year.

Politika plans to study business or medicine at Washington State University in Pullman this fall.

Mauritz Ahlburg has been named Business Student of the Year.

Ahlburg will attend the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C., this fall to study business and economics.

The awards were presented by Jeramey Johnson of Arrow Marine Launch and Laurie Szczepczynski of Sound Community Bank at the 2019 Business and Marketing Awards Night held May 30.

Selection process

The students of the year are selected by a committee of local business people based on academic performance in CTE classes, an essay and an application that details the student’s high school successes.

The Business and Marketing Advisory Committee members include Roxi Baxley, owner of Strait Web Solutions; Jeramey Johnson, office manager for Arrow Marine Launch; Laurie Szczepczynski, branch manager of Sound Community Bank; Christina Costello, manager of Higher Grounds and a PAHS 2012 Business Student of the Year; and Allie Plute, human resources director for 7 Cedars Casino and Resort Properties.
