Port Angeles home fire extinguished

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles firefighters extinguished a fire in a home at 120 E. 10th St. this morning.

The fire began at about 9 a.m. and was contained to the homeowner’s bedroom.

The man who owns the home, Thomas R. Harlan, was not injured, said fire Lt. Mike Sanders.

Sanders said firefighters first arrived at the scene within about two minutes, and the fire was put out within an additional five minutes.

He said Harlan was holding a small dog that didn’t appear to be injured when fire crews arrived.

Sanders said about 16 firefighters and medics from the Port Angeles Fire Department and Clallam County Fire District No. 2 arrived in three fire engines and one medic unit.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but Sanders said Harlan told him that it started near his computer in the bedroom.

Sanders said the home is structurally sound.

He said Harlan has insurance and will likely be staying with family in the area until he can move back in.

“I’m glad nobody got hurt, and that is the most important thing,” Sanders said.
