PORT ANGELES — With the general manager of the city’s largest hotel refusing to participate, a meeting of local motel owners will be held Monday to discuss possible legal action to block the proposed Oak Street hotel and conference center.
Best Western Olympic Lodge owner Tod McClaskey called the closed-door meeting for 7 p.m. at his hotel on the eastern edge of Port Angeles.
Several motel managers have expressed their support for a suit, at least in principle.
McClaskey believes the hotel/conference center won’t draw any additional visitors to Port Angeles — instead it will draw customers away from the Olympic Lodge and other local hotels and motels.
Then too few visitors chasing too many rooms will lead to a “rate war,” he says.
One notable absence from Monday’s meeting will be the Red Lion Hotel’s general manager, Michael Luehrs.
“It wasn’t my intention to attend — I wouldn’t get a lot out of it,” Luehrs said last week.
