PORT ANGELES — A meeting of local motel owners called by Best Western Olympic Lodge owner Tod McClaskey was held Monday night to gauge support for legal action against the proposed Oak Street hotel and conference center.
There was no indication how many persons attended, or what happened.
The meeting was held behind closed doors at the Olympic Lodge, and a Peninsula Daily News reporter waiting for any announcements was ordered off the premises.
Telephone calls to McClaskey and the Olympic Lodge’s general manager, John Platt, were not returned.
McClaskey contends the $16.5 million hotel/convention center will harm his hotel and the city’s motels by drawing away customers and causing a “rate war.”
McClaskey says he also objects to the city’s offer of a 20-year, $100,000 annual subsidy from city hotel-motel bed taxes to fund the conference center.
McClaskey wants to form a local lodging owners association to fund and pursue a lawsuit.
