PORT ANGELES — Barbecues, a parade, an evening full of music at City Pier and a dazzling fireworks show highlighted Port Angeles’ celebration of America’s 227th birthday.
About 2,000 people turned out to watch more than 50 units parade through downtown Port Angeles, beginning and ending at Valley Street.
The parade was unusual because there wasn’t a single marching band, but there was plenty of recorded music, two string bands on trailers and even a young Scottish piper.
“This is great,” said Sandy Givens of Port Angeles.
But her daughter wasn’t quite as satisfied.
“I wish there were floats with princesses,” said 7-year-old Sahara Givens.
