PORT ANGELES — Firefighters will begin their investigation today into a blaze that swept through the city’s tallest building early Tuesday, destroying a street-level camera store and damaging the historical Elks Naval Lodge.
The fire apparently started in the back of Camera Corner at First and Lincoln streets and worked its way up a common wall into the lodge’s second floor billiards room, directly above the store, also causing minor damage to the lodge’s third-floor ballroom.
Firefighters contained the blaze to the camera store and the east wall of the lodge building. No one was injured.
“We feel very fortunate,” Port Angeles Fire Chief Dan McKeen said.
