PORT ANGELES — It now may be early next week before investigators can begin to determine the cause of Tuesday’s fire at the downtown Elks Naval Lodge.
Port Angeles Fire Marshal Ken Dubuc had hoped to get into the damaged building today, but shoring of the weakened structure will not start until today, he said.
“We expect at best to be in on Monday and at worst to be in on Tuesday to do the investigation,” Dubuc said Thursday.
The early morning fire destroyed the street-level Camera Corner photography store at First and Lincoln streets, damaged parts of the lodge’s second and third floors, and caused smoke and fire damage to @Play Internet Cafe, another street-level business in the building.
The Bead Tree and Stuff For Home and Garden, two other tenants of the building, escaped the flames and will likely reopen soon.
