PORT ANGELES –Jefferson Elementary School teachers will welcome about 212 students into the renovated building when the first bell rings Monday morning.
The school at 218 E. 12th St. has been closed for renovations for more than a year.
The historic front facade of the school — built in 1922 — remains intact and influenced the overall redesign of renovations.
“I think students are going to absolutely love it,” Port Angeles School District Superintendent Gary Cohn said Thursday. “It feels very comfortable and warm like an old friend welcoming them back.”
Cohn said the more open design of the school makes for a less institutional-type building.
