PORT ANGELES — State Rep. Lynn Kessler warned business leaders Monday that the fate of Washington’s economy could rest on a proposed gasoline tax increase on the November ballot.
Kessler’s talk at the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce’s luncheon meeting Monday opened the first of three successive weekly luncheon meetings featuring North Olympic Peninsula state lawmakers.
Voter approval of the 9-cent gas tax increase would be the first step in showing the Washington business community that the commitment exists to improve highways and other transportation modes, Kessler, D-Hoquiam, said.
Should the measure fail, large companies such as Boeing Co. have stated they would reduce the amount of business they will conduct in the state, she said.
