PORT ANGELES — The 12th annual Port Angeles Kiwanis Club Community Prayer Breakfast will be held in the St. Anne Room at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 209 W. 11th St., from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
After a full buffet breakfast, Sylvester “Syl” Neal, Kiwanis International president-elect, will speak on “Life Experiences.”
Pastor Darvin Jordan with the Salvation Army in Port Angeles will perform special music.
Now retired and active in church, Kiwanis and other volunteer activities, Neal spent 26 years in firefighting, airport security and industrial safety, including two appointed terms as the state fire marshal for Alaska.
He chaired the Alaska State Fire Commission on Fire Prevention and Control and served on the board of Alaskans for Drug Free Youth and on two community college boards.
He has held volunteer positions with United Way, Special Olympics and served as chairman of the Alaska Fallen Firefighters Memorial fundraising committee.
He and his wife, Doris, now live in the Seattle suburb of Auburn.
Neal will be installed as the next president of Kiwanis International in June at the service club’s 95th convention in Las Vegas.
He will preside over an organization that has more than 600,000 members in nearly 15,000 clubs in 92 countries — “volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time,” according to Neal.
Tickets for the prayer breakfast are $8 per person and can be purchased at the door, but seating is limited.
