PORT ANGELES — A Liberian-flagged tanker is docked at T-pier today after engine troubles prompted the Coast Guard to order the vessel into port.
While docked here, the 563-foot Great Promise will undergo engine repairs stemming from a journey that caught the attention of the state Department of Ecology.
Ecology became aware of problems with the vessel last week as it was approaching Washington waters to transfer its gasoline cargo to another tanker, said Guy Grayson, a vessel inspector for the state.
While en route from China to California, the ship was diverted to Puget Sound by the vessel’s agent, Transmarine Navigation Corp. of Long Beach, Calif.
“The Coast Guard ordered the vessel to have a tug escort to Port Angeles (last weekend) before she could go any further,” Grayson said.
