Port Angeles’ Lonely H celebrating new album tonight, then back on the road

PORT ANGELES — Although it won’t be long before they’re on the road again, The Lonely H, the Port Angeles High School graduates turned classic rockers, can’t think of a better place to launch their third CD than right back at home.

The group will hold a launch party and concert at Budget CD’s, 111 W. Front St., Port Angeles, at 7 p.m. today.

There will be a cover charge of $7 per person or the purchase of the new CD, “Concrete Class.”

The concert is the first to celebrate the new CD, which was officially launched Tuesday.

“We’ll, of course, have releases all over the place — the next one is in Seattle,” said Mark Fredson, singer and keyboardist for the band.

“But we wanted to come home to give some love to our fans here, who have known us and supported us all along.”

Fredson called the album “really solid” and is enthusiastic about every song.

“It is really difficult to pick one song [as the best] because I am really proud of all of them,” he said.

Along with Fredson are brothers Eric Whitman on guitar and Johnny Whitman on bass and drummer Ben Eyestone.

Fredson said the new album will launch them on another round of tours, much like their previous two albums.

The album, he said, was influenced by the band having been on tour for the past two years.

“This one has a real feeling of what it was like to be on the road,” he said.

“A lot of our music is influenced by our experiences, and for the past couple years, we’ve spent most of our time traveling.”

The new album follows 2006’s “Kick Upstairs” and 2007’s “Hair.”

Although the band members took some time to relax in Port Angeles, Fredson said he was ready for the next rounds of tours.

“I can’t wait to get back out on the road,” he said. “There’s nothing like it.”

Band members don’t necessarily stay at hotels while on the road.

“We crash with people we meet, other bands, people we come across,” Fredson said.

“Everyone is so amazing, and it is a great feeling to get to know all of these people.”

All of the band members are graduates of Port Angeles High School.

They recorded the album “Hair” during the school year and started their first tour immediately after the June 2007 graduation.
