Port Angeles man arrested after standoff with police

PORT ANGELES — A 26-year-old Port Angeles man was taken into custody early this morning after a seven-hour armed standoff near the 1500 block of West Fifth Street in Port Angeles.

Port Angeles police and other area law enforcement officers arrested Justin G. Mason at about 9:15 today.

He was to being booked today for unlawful imprisonment, stalking and harassment, Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith said.

Before Mason was arrested, police said they were involved in a standoff with a barricaded suspect who was believed to be armed and dangerous in a residence in west Port Angeles.

Police evacuated nearby residents and had asked motorists to take alternate routes.

About 20 officers were involved in apprehending Mason, whom police said surrendered.

Port Angeles crisis negotiators were assisted by Sequim police and Clallam County Sheriff’s Office negotiators, Smith said.

A search warrant was in the process of being served this morning.
