JOYCE — The State Patrol has cited a Port Angeles man after he rear-ended a U.S. Border Patrol sport utility vehicle on state Highway 112 on Wednesday.
Gerald D. Barnes, 53, was cited Thursday for speed too fast for conditions, said Trooper Russ Winger, spokesman for the State Patrol.
Barnes was driving a 2011 Ford Fiesta at about 2:37 p.m. when a fully marked Border Patrol SUV driven by agent Kurt R. Dannewitz, 40, slowed to make a right turn off the highway about 13 miles west of Joyce, Trooper Keith Nestor reported.
Struck from behind
Barnes’ vehicle then struck the SUV from behind, Nestor said.
Barnes was treated and discharged from Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, according to Bobby Beeman, hospital spokeswoman.
Dannewitz was not injured, the State Patrol said.
The Fiesta was destroyed, while the Border Patrol SUV was not damaged and was driven from the scene, the State Patrol said.
Troopers said no drugs or alcohol was involved, and both drivers were wearing seat belts.
