PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man faces nine charges, including four counts of second-degree rape of a child, stemming from his alleged sexual and physical abuse of five children, the youngest of whom was 9 years old.
Michael Donald Stephens, 33, was charged Wednesday in Clallam County Superior Court with four counts of second-degree rape of a child, one count of third-degree rape of a child, one count of third-degree child molestation, one count of second-degree attempted rape of a child, one count of second-degree child molestation and one count of fourth-degree assault.
Stephens will be arraigned on these charges at 1 p.m. Friday, April 12, in Clallam County Superior Court.
The second-degree child-rape charges, Class A felonies and the most serious of the counts, carry a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $50,000 fine.
Up to 10 years in prison
The maximum prison terms for the other charges range from one to 10 years.
Port Angeles police said an officer responded March 30 to a home south of Lauridsen Boulevard to a report of suspected abuse of five children, ranging in age from 9 to 15.
Police arrested Stephens later that night after interviewing the children.
