Port Angeles man hurt in motorcycle wreck

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man was severely injured when his motorcycle hit a pickup truck Sunday morning near the top of the Morse Creek “S” curve on Highway 101.

David Caroll Mills, 44, of Port Angeles was westbound on U.S. Highway 101 when his 2007 Kawasaki KL650a motorcycle collided with a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck at about 10:20 a.m. at North Masters Road, near the entrance to Koenig Chevrolet Subaru, according the State Patrol.

Mills was taken to Olympic Medical Center, where he was reported to be in critical condition and was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for advanced care.

The truck, driven by Lorraine M. Brickwell, 80, of Port Angeles, turned left from eastbound Highway 101 to Masters Road directly in front of Mills, State Patrol Trooper Matt Phillips said in his report.

The motorcycle ran into the front of the truck and came to rest on top of Mills in the right westbound lane.

Traffic was rerouted, and Highway 101 was narrowed to one lane while paramedics treated Mills. Highway 101 was back to normal by 11:39 a.m.

Brickwell was cited with failure to yield the right of way, Phillips said.

The front of Chevrolet truck was dented with a broken windshield, and was driven from the scene.
