PORT ANGELES — A decorated veteran of the Vietnam War who was missing in action more than once during that bloody conflict faces the painful irony of knowing the same thing has happened to his son.
Brian Reiss learned Monday that his 23-year-old son, Marine Sgt. Brendon C. Reiss, is missing after Iraqi soldiers ambushed his unit near a Euphrates River bridge.
“I know what he’s facing,” said Brian Reiss, a two-time recipient of the Purple Heart in Vietnam, where he fought in such battles as the Tet offensive in 1968.
“With my prior experience in the military, I am concerned that with him being a sergeant he’s a prime candidate for torture or someone they’d like to extract information from.”
