PORT ANGELES — Mayor Larry Doyle will not seek re-election to the Port Angeles City Council.
“It is time to step aside and let someone else take over,” Doyle said Sunday, confirming he will not be among those responding when official filing opens today at the Clallam County auditor’s office.
Four Port Angeles City Council positions will be up for grabs in the fall election.
Doyle has served on the council for eight years, including two years as deputy mayor and the last two years as mayor. The mayor is chosen by the council.
“It has been a very enjoyable and rewarding experience, but I just decided not to run,” Doyle said.
“I’m going to be 71 years old soon, and it’s time to spend some time on other things.
“We’ve had a great council and there are lot of things in the hopper, such as annexation and fiber-optics. It will be an exciting time.
