PORT ANGELES — More apparent vandalism of two tribal canoes parked on Hollywood Beach last week has left Port Angeles and tribal officials upset.
“I’m just at a loss for words,” Lower Elwha Klallam Police Chief Mike Lasnier said.
Two of about a dozen canoes that arrived in Port Angeles last week as part of the 2002 Paddle Journey were overturned Thursday night and urinated on between regular police patrols of the area, Lasnier said.
Crew members from participating Western Washington and British Columbia tribes that arrived in Port Angeles on Wednesday were slated to watch their canoes on the public beach overnight, but were not there when the vandalism occurred, Lasnier said.
