PORT ANGELES — The most romantic man on the North Olympic Peninsula was honored at Olympic Cellars winery on Wednesday.
Port Angeles resident Jack Marshall beat out 54 other area men in a Valentine’s Day contest sponsored by the winery.
The men were nominated in letters written by wives or significant others.
Winery officials also selected a runner-up for the contest, Roger Sanders of Port Angeles.
Marshall, a landscape contractor, was nominated by his wife, Pam, who did not tell him about her contest entry.
“This was a total surprise. I don’t think of myself as a romantic person,” Marshall said.
“It is not something I have to work at. It is pretty easy because I love this woman.”
In the nominating letter, Marshall, 57, was described as a man who does things every day to make his wife feel loved and special.
“My favorite thing about Jack is how openly he shares his love for me with everyone — he proudly stated once that he had waited a lifetime to be here with me,” Mrs. Marshall wrote.
