PORT ANGELES — A 21-year-old motorist was killed on U.S. Highway 101 on Tuesday night as he pulled out from a gas station and was struck by oncoming traffic.
Matthew Aaron Schreck of Port Angeles was extricated from his Nissan Sentra, taken to Olympic Medical Center and pronounced dead about an hour after the crash near the highway’s intersection with Fairmount Avenue.
He was the only person in the car, State Patrol Trooper Ken Ahrens said.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Schreck’s car, 64-year-old George R. Dhooghe of Forks, was also taken to the hospital and was still in the emergency room in stable condition Tuesday night, a nursing supervisor reported.
