PORT ANGELES — About 40 people attended a ceremony Monday morning welcoming the MV Coho back into car and passenger ferry service to Victoria.
“We’re delighted to see the Coho back in service and ready for another season, which we hope is good,” said Mayor Glenn Wiggins, who represented City Hall at the ceremony along with Councilman Larry Williams.
The 43-year-old ferry — resplendent in a fresh coat of paint — resumed its 8:20 a.m. departures to the British Columbia capital Monday following a two-week winter hiatus at a Seattle dry dock for routine maintenance and repairs.
The midwinter gap is annual, but this year’s Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce ceremony for passengers on the Coho’s post-hiatus maiden voyage is new.
“I’m delighted to hear that first whistle. This celebration is 20 years overdue,” said Tony Griffith, Port Angeles Inn owner.
