PORT ANGELES — A proposal to eliminate minimum parking requirements for city businesses will be the subject of a City Council public hearing after the Planning Commission voted 3-2 Wednesday night to recommend the change.
The hearing will begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 4 in the council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
The goal of the parking revision is to make Port Angeles more “business-friendly.”
“This would make businesses responsible for meeting their own parking needs,” said city Community Development Director Brad Collins.
The proposal would accomplish the goal of eliminating minimum parking requirements and allowing more options for businesses to meet their parking needs, he said.
The City Council proposal doesn’t eliminate parking regulations — nor does it affect the downtown’s Parking and Business Improvement Area or its operation, he said.
Developers still would have the customary options for dealing with parking issues, such as requesting a variance, he said.
