PORT ANGELES — Members of the Service Employees International Union have canceled the informational picketing they had planned today at Olympic Medical Center.
“Isn’t that a good bit of news!” said Arlene Engel, president of the hospital’s commissioners, confirming the demonstration had been called off.
Details of a tentative settlement could not be confirmed on Tuesday, but Richard Newman, OMC’s assistant administrator for human resources, said, “They will have something to vote on next week.”
Mike Wolniewicz, spokesman for OMC members of SEIU Local 1199 NW, said they will vote on the proposal Monday and Tuesday.
“It was an agreement that both Olympic Medical Center and the bargaining team felt was an acceptable one,” he said.
The SEIU had announced the picketing earlier this month as negotiations reached an impasse in the reopener stage in the third year of the union’s three-year contract.
The union represents housekeepers, maintenance personnel, and registered and licensed practical nurses at OMC.
