PORT ANGELES — Port officials should know in a week if the Port Angeles waterfront is the state’s preferred site for a multimillion-dollar project to build concrete pontoons and anchors for the new eastern half of the Hood Canal Bridge.
A decision will be announced on Nov. 20, according to state Department of Transportation officials who addressed Port of Port Angeles commissioners at a special meeting Wednesday.
Residents and business representatives lined up with city, county and state leaders to voice support for the estimated $16 million project, which is expected to bring up to 120 jobs paying $56,000 a year for three years.
A recent city of Port Angeles-contracted study estimated that the project would have an economic impact of $19 million on Clallam and Jefferson counties.
