If Kenneth Kelly can’t find a home for his three Victorian hardware businesses in Port Townsend, officials in another North Olympic Peninsula city say they’re willing to make room for his 20,000-square-foot distribution center.
Port Angeles City Councilwoman Karen Rogers and city Economic Development Director Tim Smith are fronting an effort to sway Kelly westward should Port Townsend not pan out, Rogers said Tuesday.
Kelly had entered into an agreement with Jefferson Transit to purchase 1.5 acres off Upper Sims Way in Port Townsend for $150,000, pending approval of an ordinance changing the land’s zoning from public infrastructure to commercial “C-II” zoning.
On Monday, the Port Townsend City Council rejected that measure.
The fate of the company’s Port Townsend bid is now up in the air.
