PORT ANGELES — City officials are offering a $2 million, 20-year development subsidy, plus potential operating subsidies, to attract a regional conference center to the downtown area.
The effort is part of the city’s long-term economic development plan.
Developers have until Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. to submit their proposals to the city, according to a recently released “request for proposals.”
The city plans to use $100,000 of its hotel/motel room tax money annually for 20 years to fund the subsidy.
However, the committee that advises the City Council how to spend that tax money hasn’t discussed the proposed subsidy yet.
The 11-person room tax committee has the issue on its next meeting agenda, according to Russ Veenema, Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce executive director.
