PORT ANGELES — One of the Peninsula’s largest churches has proposed an ambitious five-year expansion plan that includes a 25,686-square-foot, two-story “family life center.
Also planned for the Independent Bible Church’s property at 116 E. Ahlvers Road are a 6,000-square-foot office building and an athletic field.
“The project is driven by our ministry activities,’ said IBC Administrator Chuck Brown.
“We are confined right now. We need room to grow.”
For example, the church now cannot hold a dinner on its grounds for all its hundreds of members, Brown said.
The church has a regular congregation of more than 1,000 and there are 800 attending church on any given Sunday, he said.
The church hopes to begin building the estimated $2 million Family Life Center in two years, depending upon the success of fund-raising efforts, Brown said.
The entire complex could take as long as five years to build, he said.
The proposed Family Life Center would be located just south of the existing worship center. The area is zoned single-family residential.
The 20,576-square-foot main floor would house a gym with a stage and seating, a full-service kitchen, six classrooms, a lobby and a teen activities room plus an outdoor courtyard.
The second floor would house 5,110 square feet of classrooms and storage space for a building total of 25,686 square feet.
An area south of the proposed Family Life Center could be cleared and used for either parking or another classroom building, Brown said.
