The director of Port Angeles High School and Roosevelt Middle School orchestras, Ron Jones, has been chosen to receive the National Federation Interscholastic Music Association Outstanding Music Educator Award for 2002-2003.
He was nominated by his peers at the state level — the Washington Music Educators Association.
Jones has taught children to play musical instruments for about 27 years.
He was one of only 16 winners from around the country to receive the national award.
The award was first given in 1989. Since that time, 83 sectional and 118 state awards have been presented.
Last year Jones was named the state Music Educator of the Year.
