PORT ANGELES — About 25 Monroe Elementary School parents and teachers met at the school Thursday night to question a School Board task force report that calls for closing the school, at least temporarily.
Many of the parents were angry that Monroe, 102 Monroe Road, is listed for temporary or permanent closure above all but one of the Port Angeles School District’s elementary schools.
“I don’t want it to be a our school against your school,” said Monroe Parent Teacher Organization President Patti Happe following the meeting.
“We need to look at what is best for our children.”
The task force was asked by the School Board to find a way to cut $300,000 from building operations to prevent further operating budget reductions.
The board is expected to make a decision about district-owned facilities — including what schools to close, if any — in March or April.
