PORT ANGELES — A revised concept for a second tier on the Gateway Transportation Center project could solve a potential downtown parking shortage even if the Gateway Center lid isn’t funded, the city Parking Advisory Committee concluded Thursday.
“I think we are on to something whether the lid is funded or not,” city Economic Development Director Tim Smith said.
Cost estimates and potential funding sources for the revised concept still have to be worked out, but the plan appears to have the support of Clallam Transit General Manager Dan Di Guilio, if it is affordable.
“Get good numbers,” he said.
The parking committee will meet again at 3 p.m. next Thursday to review cost estimates and funding options for a revised second tier.
Revised plans also include a street-level deck from Front Street to the alley east of Zak’s, an area known as Tidelands West.
